The SoftLayer Product Life Cycle Policy provides guidelines for all SoftLayer portfolio products that are slated for end of marketing (EOM) or end of support (EOS). The life cycle policy covers everything in the SoftLayer product portfolio – compute, storage, software, bandwidth, and so on. Products slated for EOS will be announced 90 days prior to EOS via the SoftLayer Product Life Cycle site in KnowledgeLayer. The 90-day window is meant to give customers, partners, and vendors sufficient time to identify and plan next steps.
- General availability (GA)
- The effective date a SoftLayer product offering is made available to all users, regardless of language or media. A product version and release is not published on the SoftLayer Product Life Cycle web site until the GA date. End of marketing
- End of marketing [EOM (no longer sold)]
- The effective date on which a SoftLayer product offering ceases to be active on the standard price list and can no longer be ordered or purchased. End of support announcement date
- End of support announcement date (EOS AD)
- The date SoftLayer announces the end-of-support date for a product that is currently offered and is normally 90 days prior to the actual EOS date. To make planning easier, we endeavor to announce most EOS AD dates on 31 January or 30 June.

- The last date on which SoftLayer will deliver standard support, imaging, or reload services for a given version or release of a product. To make planning easier, we endeavor to announce most EOS dates on 30 April or 30 - 9 -. SoftLayer has the option to allow customers to continue using EOS products or "withdraw usage" of a product 100%.
Policy types:
- SoftLayer Software Policy - Focuses on vendor software that is resold to SoftLayer customers.
- SoftLayer Portfolio Policy - Focuses on compute, storage, bandwidth, and other IaaS portfolio items offered by SoftLayer
